Soya milk: Sales volume in Great Britain 2009-2018

How much soymilk is sold in Britain? About 92.6 million liters of soya milk were sold in Great Britain in the year leading up to the 7th of October 2018. Sales volume has increased by over 17 million liters from the year leading to the 18th of October 2009. The years 2016 to 2018 saw a large growth after the prior years had seen a stagnation.

Soy production and trade

The United States, Brazil, and Argentina were the leading soybean producers in 2018/2019. However, Brazil, is expected to be the biggest producers in 2019/2020. The biggest importer of soybeans was China, followed by the European Union. The United Kingdom itself is only a small importer of soybeans and the ninth largest importer in the world, which is Turkey (excluding the EU) still imported more than three times the volume that the United Kingdom in 2017/2018.

Soymilk as milk replacement

In 2017, Soymilk was the most lucrative dairy free milk alternative on the market. Its retail sales were worth approximately 164 million dollars, which is more than all other milk alternatives combined. Despite the availability of alternatives and general trend on the market towards free from foods, the sales volume of liquid milk remained stable in Britain in recent years. Used as a catch-all term, free from food includes all food and drink that specifically was designed to exclude one or more ingredients that could trigger allergies or intolerances.
